GEORGE TOWN: Tycoon and prominent community leader Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping, who allegedly threatened an airline station manager in Penang last week, will reveal all at a press conference today.

Tan, who is the president of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce, brushed off the incident as a "simple matter", but added that the manager was rude.

Tan was part of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's delegation, leaving for Xiamen last Tuesday when he was involved in a spat with an airline station manager.

The tycoon was alleged to have threatened the manager after Tan had refused to cooperate when asked to get his passport verified at the check-in counter.

The manager, who lodged a police report, alleged that Tan had threatened to have him kicked out of Penang.

When contacted in Hong Kong yesterday, Tan described the incident as a "simple matter".

"I found the manager rude. I was already cleared (to board the plane) but the man insisted that I check in again before him."

Tan is also expected to have his statement recorded by police.

Southwest district deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Lai Fah Hin said the case was being investigated for criminal intimidation.

It was also reported that the airline was conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
