KOTA KINABALU : A social activist has claimed that the introduction of cheap flights via budget airlines have increased human trafficking activities in Sabah. Anne Keyworth, who runs a home for such victims, said that more girls from neighbouring countries were being brought in as prostitutes, more often than not against their wishes.

She felt that society was also not playing its role as some people were aware of something suspicious going on but don’t report to the authorities.
“Some are scared that something will happen to them, while others just can’t be bothered, even though it’s going on right in front of them.

“Human trafficking in Sabah, especially of prostitutes, will continue to flourish if society does not do its part and report such incidence.”
It has been reported that Sabah has earned the dubious distinction of being a hotbed for human trafficking in the country, the victims being women and children forced into prostitution.

On Monday, police saved 14 women, who were locked up and forced to be sex slaves, at a hotel here.
During the two-hour raid, three men, who were believed to be the pimps, were detained for further investigation.

The 13 Filipinas and a Vietnamese, had been closely monitored and their movements restricted by the suspects.
